Assessment
Assessment Information
Our students follow a broad and varied curriculum which allows them to develop the skills that they need for life. We recognise that key areas for development for our students are not always based around subject learning and our assessment system has been designed to ensure that we can measure the holistic progress that our students make. This means that we can consider their development across the curriculum, rather than focussing on individual subjects.
We assess student progress in the following strands:
- Communication
- Friendship and Citizenship
- Life Skills
- Physical and Health
- Understanding the World
- Literacy – Reading, Writing/Recording
- Numeracy – Number, Applied Maths
- Work Skills
We use B levels (Brentwood levels) to assess progress, and we record this progress using Evidence for Learning. Progress is evidenced in many different ways including through the use of photographs, videos, professional statements and learning activities completed in class.
We have a highly individualised approach to assessment and students are set targets that are appropriate to them and the level at which they are working.
Assessment takes place regularly and teachers can move students on to new targets as soon as they are ready to. The system is completely flexible so that it is able to represent the individual progress that students make.
