Family Support

At Brentwood we aim to promote and encourage the involvement of parents and carers in all aspects of school life by welcoming them into school at any time and helping them to add to the positive and friendly atmosphere of the school

What is a Family Support Worker?

A Family Support Worker (FSW) is a supportive role in which positive relationships are built between the FSW, parents and families, carers, school and service providers.  A FSW will aim to breakdown any barriers; they will communicate with you and support your child/young person's learning by helping to address issues arising from events in school or at home.

My role has been developed to work across school supporting class teams, the school nurse, therapists and the school Family Support Advisor to ensure student health care and medical needs are met.

Who is your FSW?

Your FSW at Brentwood is Helen Welsh.

Helen is available Monday-Friday during term time. Please do not hesitate to contact Helen on 0161 905 2371 or hwelsh@ brentwood.trafford.sch.uk if you would like to discuss any issues.

What does a FSW do?

The role of a FSW is varied and dynamic.

These are some of the possible issues a FSW can assist with:-

  • Liaise with other professionals both inside and outside school

  • Organise and co-ordinate support groups

  • Gather information about local services for parents, children and families in the area

  • Discuss and assist in punctuality and attendance issues

  • Provide advice and guidance on where to access support with claiming benefits

  • Support during times of transition

  • Work in the safeguarding team to ensure we keep students safe at all times

Where a FSA is unable to help, they will do their best to find the information for you or direct you to the right contact.
