Accreditation

External Accreditation

Providing students with external accreditations opportunities, allows them to officially recognise and certificate the progress they have made in school. At Brentwood we seek to give students the chance to gain external recognition for their achievements at a national level. At school we currently offer the following accreditation opportunities.

  • ASDAN
  • Arts Award
  • Duke of Edinburgh
  • Ascentis

ASDAN

ASDAN is a pioneering curriculum development organisation and awarding body, offering programmes and qualifications that explicitly grow skills for learning, skills for employment and skills for life.

Students are entered for certification in the qualification when they are in their final year in Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 and complete various units which are matched to the curriculum offer. Students in Key Stage 4 and 5 work towards modules in the Personal Progress qualification and the Personal, Social Development accreditations.

Arts Award

The Arts award is a recognised qualification which has been embedded within many educational settings throughout England. Young people gain a qualification that is recognised in further education establishments and by future employers.

Students gain the qualification by studying a range of artists and their different techniques. They then create their own sketch book containing their work and findings about these artists, selecting an artist of their choice and developing a final piece to reflect their learning. Students have the opportunity to take part in the 'Discover' or 'Explore' level of the accreditation.

Duke of Edinburgh

The Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) award is an accreditation which is offered within the Sixth Form curriculum. DofE is a widely recognised and prestigious award which is undertaken by young people within the secondary age group. The award provides an opportunity for students to ascertain transferable skills that are beneficial within the school environment and the world of work. There is currently one afternoon a week dedicated to the activities planned for the successful delivery of the award.

The Duke of Edinburgh award encompasses four key components: physical, volunteering, skill and a residential expedition. It can be accessed at a variety of levels differing in challenge and ability so students have the opportunity to progress and gain up to three awards. At Brentwood, students currently work towards the 'Bronze' and 'Sliver' level of the award.

Ascentis

Ascentis is an awarding body which create qualifications that are recognised and valued by employers across both national and international markets. The Ascentis qualifications are created in partnership with education providers and are designed to meet the needs of learners, enabling them to progress onto further study or work.

The Ascentis accreditation gives selected students the opportunity to complete simple exam papers in the functional skills areas, such as addition, subtraction and whole numbers.
